What is a handicraft?

Simply Assisting God

I am a humble artist
moulding my earthly clod,
adding my labour to nature's,
simply assisting God.

Not that my effort is needed
yet somehow, I understand,
my maker has willed it that I too should have
unmoulded clay in my hand.

The above poem by Danish mathematician, Piet Hein, succinctly captures our attitude to handicrafts. Handicrafts originated as responses to the needs of our daily life. The handicraft tradition uniquely blends aesthetics and functionality. We at HoI focus on products, which apart from being beautiful add value to your lives. Once handcrafted items become a part of your daily existence, it is easy to understand and appreciate their beauty – be it the materials used, the processes employed in creating them, or the personal touch that the artisan’s skillful hand imparts to every item. We believe “simple is beautiful” and that’s why through HOI would like to provide you the kind of handcrafted items you’d love to own for its usefulness and simplicity. Handcrafted products belong to a wonderful wholesome tradition, where the worthiness of the item is as important as the aesthetics or the process of its creation.
